VANCOUVER JINGYUN OPERA ASSOCIATION

The Vancouver Jingyun Opera Association was founded in September 2017 with a mission to promote and preserve the rich cultural traditions of China, revitalize the national art of Peking opera, foster cultural exchange between Canada and China, provide performance opportunities for Peking opera enthusiasts, and enrich the multicultural community of Vancouver.

Peking opera is a centuries-old stage art that is considered one of China's foremost cultural treasures. In Canada, too, there are many talented Peking opera performers of all ages and experiences who share a deep passion for this unique and beautiful art. The Vancouver Jingyun Opera Association is one such group of enthusiasts and professionals who are invested in the continuation and prosperity of Peking opera.

Since its inception, the Association has been actively engaged in events and performances in Metro Vancouver, appearing in the Chinese Traditional Opera Showcase in 2018 and 2019, as well as the Tri-Cities Chinese New Year celebration in 2019. We have also performed in multiple holiday concerts and charity shows for the elderly. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Association organized online performances for Mid-Autumn Festival and Chinese New Year. In addition, we have hosted workshops, both online and offline, introducing Peking opera.

The Association strives to bring together talented enthusiasts and showcase the art of Peking opera in Canada. As the pandemic ends, we will continue to offer lectures and workshops, while also partnering with other opera clubs to perform in theatres and throughout the community. We are confident that, with our efforts and the continued support of the community, the Association will continue to develop, and Peking opera will flourish in Vancouver.
